Kara's Story

Kara Moore began playing golf at the age of seven and grew up in Centreville, Virginia. She took lessons at the Virginia Golf Center in Clifton, VA, under long-time coach Varden Dyer. Kara attended Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA, where she was a four-year varsity golfer. During that time, she trained under Golf Channel PGA Professional Erika Larkin and LPGA Teaching Professional and fellow U.S. Kids Golf instructor Tarah Schloss.

Kara went on to attend Marymount University in Arlington, VA, where she founded the Division III women’s golf program. She competed on the program’s inaugural 2014–2015 team during her senior year.

Her passion for teaching golf was discovered while volunteering with First Tee D.C. for two years while attending Marymount University. Since then, Kara has become a First Tee–certified coach. She began programming at Oakmont Golf Complex in 2017 and has also taught First Tee classes at Dulles Sportsplex. In recognition of her dedication and impact, Kara was named the recipient of the 2021 Nyles Smith Coach of the Year Award presented by First Tee D.C.

Kara’s coaching style reflects a “KISS” (Keep It Simple, Stupid) philosophy, helping students understand the key fundamentals while making the game approachable and fun. She specializes in working with juniors, helping them develop their skills to compete at the high school and college levels.

Kara credits much of her success today to the coaches who supported her throughout her youth. They believed in her and consistently offered encouragement every step of the way. Her goal is to provide lifelong golf experiences for everyone she works with, ensuring that players can enjoy the game at any age. Kara has been a member of the LPGA Teaching Professionals since 2017 and earned her Class A membership in 2021.
