Linda's Story
My Teaching Philosophy
I have been in the golfing industry for over 25 years and throughout this time I have created a teaching philosophy that instills passion and enthusiasm to help golfers at every level enjoy the game more by making them better golfers. I do this through my TPI Training that works towards educating students on the foundations for achieving successful golf. These foundations are Solid Swing Fundamentals, Physical Fitness, Mental Toughness and Injury Prevention. All combine together to help one play the game. I pride myself in utilizing a teaching style that is sincere and encouraging to my students. Together we transform their game until they achieve the level of play desired, resulting in a true understanding of the fundamentals for lifelong enjoyment of the game. I make positive changes in ones game and change is why my students continue to come to me.
My History
I was raised in the Pittsburgh PA area in the small town of Jeannette. My dad started me in golf when I was 13 years old in my back yard. I will never forget, as soon as he was done going through a checklist of things to do before I swung the club and immediately after I swung at the plastic golf ball, I knew that I wanted to be a pro golfer! Every day I would practice in my yard hitting plastic golf balls over my house from back yard to front yard. Then front yard to back yard over and over again. I graduated to a nice top of the line hitting net, draped across my garage door and got a good mat. I would spend hours just hitting and hitting real golf balls into the net. My dad eventually took me to par 3 courses and then he had one of my family friends take me to Valley Green Golf Course where I would become the club champion for 3 straight years.
After attending Slippery Rock State College which I did not play on the team because they did not have a women’s program I decided I would give the mini tours a try. I did not do so well. Back in the day I thought the players were similar to me, working and playing golf to prepare for the big times. I was sadly mistaken. Those women on the mini tours had sponsors already! I quickly learned that I could not compete with that level of play but, wanted to still remain in golf. I joined a friend in California and worked a municipal course in Sacramento. I missed home and moved back after 8 straight months of not one single drop of rain while in California. I would wake up and say “not another sunny day”!!!
I started working at another public course at Linden Wood Golf Club and that is where I started to teach the game. I spent approximately 4 years there when I moved to Hidden Valley Resort to work. Spent over 5 years there where I became Co-Head Professional. The following year I went to Nemacolin Woodlands to teach fulltime. Then ventured away from home again to move to Fairfax, VA where I’ve been since at Country Club of Fairfax, Brambleton Golf Academy and several other side entities. Golf has been a fantastic career for me and I wouldn’t change it for a minute. The people I’ve met and the places I’ve been are absolutely amazing.
My career has made many twists and turns and I am constantly learning more about the overall game of golf so I may share my knowledge with my students. My goal is to make everyone into the golfer they would love to be. As I always say... When the student is ready the teacher will appear. So if you’re reading this perhaps the time is now to work on your golf career, no matter what the level you are now or where you want to be in the end, I would love to help.
